OUR PROGRAM

Silver Canvas will provide participants with a fun and supportive theatre experience, receiving expert instruction in acting, singing, dancing, staging and producing. Our Mission is to bring a professional artist experience to our performers by building skills through various rehearsal techniques and training. At the end of the program a show will be presented to the parent community.

As a past Curriculum Leader for the TDSB, current dance teacher with Arts Mackenzie (Performing Arts High School) and a writer for the Ministry of Education, Carly has expertise in bringing forth both the Ontario Curriculum and the PYP (IB) curriculum. The students will learn respect and cooperation through the group processes. Empathy, creativity and curiosity are elements that are focused on through out rehearsals. In all her years teaching the arts, it is clear that Theatre Studies build valuable, life skills such as confidence and commitment to achieving a goal.

Silver Canvas Productions has been a part of the fabric at Branksome Hall and other GTA schools for over eight years. We have built a relationship with teaching staff and welcome the opportunity to make connections for students from their daytime classes. Teachers often recommend our program to help build confidence in their students. We also work with the resource teachers and help build literacy skills with our students through out the process. Each child has a chance to shine in our program by getting guaranteed three lines and a singing solo. During the audition process each child has an opportunity to voice what they want to work on and we rework the show so that they build those specific skills.

Silver Canvas Productions Educational Mission Statement

I believe this program provides an experience in the classroom and in the camp setting that can catalyze transformation, foster full self-expression, and generate a true sense of community that will profoundly impact the lives of young people.

Through these programs, we seek to:

  • Foster self-expression, encourage teamwork, inspire self-confidence and success, and light up the imagination
  • Offer young people unlimited opportunities to discover and develop hidden talents
  • Provide information and support to teachers who wish to integrate theatre forms and techniques into their curriculum and classroom activities
  • Engage families and neighbours in celebrating the power of youthful imagination through student performances
  • Help children learn the language of movement and physical theatre
  • Expose students to a variety of theatre forms, enabling them to experience the full scope of our work
  • Give a rare opportunity to work with professional artists from the community
  • We have often seen that involvement in this program help student achieve in other academic subjects because this program helps with many life skills such as self esteem, goal setting, team work, follow through, discipline and commitment.
